What Is A Collectable?
You may be surprised at what might be considered a collectable. A collectable can be almost anything, from more obvious items such as toys and books to less obvious items such as advertising signs and vintage lighters. Unlike antiques, they are not always old and tend to appreciate in value over time. Curiosities, oddities, and memorabilia from major events in modern or historical times can also be classified as collectables. A collectable, in essence, is anything worthy of collecting. Some items may be made with the sole purpose of being collected, for example, film and television memorabilia, trading cards and action figures, and are produced in great numbers, with only special or limited editions holding any value. Other items acquire collectable status through the enthusiasm of individuals who appreciate their craftsmanship, historical interest, nostalgia or unique appeal.
