A range of personal items belonging to world-renowned sports commentator and presenter David Coleman will be sold at the forthcoming 26 February Sale with RWB Auctions.


David Coleman worked for the BBC for 46 years and has a recognisable voice associated with football and the Olympics. Between 1962 and 1982, he provided commentary for 6 FIFA World Cups and covered no less than 11 Summer Olympics and 8 Commonwealth Games, amongst other notable sporting events. David was also widely known for being the host of 'A Question of Sport' for 18 years, making him one of the world's most recognisable voices for British sporting excellence.

His contributions to sports journalism earned him an OBE in 1993 in the New Years Honours by Queen Elizabeth II.

As sports editor for the BBC Midlands, he was a prolific writer, working on typewriters. This sale offers a number of his personal notes and research and items of sporting and personal historical significance for sale. His family has entered these, making them a unique opportunity to own a piece of his work from notable events in his journalistic career.

Production notes for the Grandstand coverage of the Grand Nationals from 1979 -1983, including interviews with now King Charles and Princess Royal 

Lot 630 contains typewritten scripts and transcripts of David Coleman's introductory coverage, containing an interview with the then Prince, now King Charles III, in 1983. In addition, a typewritten transcript of a 4 December 1978 interview with the Princess Royal.

Lot 633 is a collection that also contains photographs and various correspondence, including correspondence from 10 Downing Street, a programme and typewritten script notes for the Royal Gala Performance on 3 July 1985, Royal Television Society Hall of Fame certificate, awarded in 1996; press cuttings and photographs relating to the 200th edition of 'A Question of Sport', a curriculum vitae, various newspaper cuttings, sports patches, a golfing trophy, DVD's of his career, a caricature and other ephemera.

Lot 634 is an Olivetti Lettera 25 typewriter, on which he composed many of his scripts and a collection of newspapers he used for reference and research material.
