A 9ct cased (washed back) early 19th-century miniature portrait of an officer. Inscribed to the verso 'William Cockburn Lieutenant 2/24th Reg N.I 10th Jan 1821', 5.5cm x 7.2cm.

This superb example of a miniature portrait dating to the early 19th century is worthy of note, not only because of its detailed depiction of the subject, but also because the owner's name is inscribed on the back, allowing us to put a name to the face. This portrait is Lot 49 in our upcoming sale on Wednesday, 5th August and forms a trio of miniatures on offer (Lot 50 & Lot 51).
