As well as two salerooms and an onsite cafe-bistro, RWB Auctions also boasts a contemporary art gallery.

The View Gallery, due to open in January 2024, occupies a glass-walled space on the top floor of the new auction house. The name was inspired by the panoramic views of the Wiltshire countryside that guests can enjoy from inside the gallery or the adjacent roof terrace. On a clear day it is possible to see the Broadtown White Horse, one of the mysterious chalk figures common in this part of the South West.

Gallery Manager Jennifer Allison is busy planning an extensive programme of exhibitions and events ahead of the grand opening.

To get to know local artists Jennifer has been visiting art fairs and getting involved with Swindon Open Studios and the Corsham Peacock Arts Trail. She has also been honing her plans for The View’s first exhibition, titled ‘Begin’, which will showcase the work of emerging and established Wiltshire artists like Lyndsay Tarren-Leister, Maria Van-Tintelen and Celia Smith.

Speaking about her plans for the gallery, Jennifer said:

Wiltshire has an incredible pool of artistic talent and I’ve enjoyed meeting them in their creative spaces. Central to our ethos at The View Gallery is the voice of the artist: we want them to be happy with how their work is displayed and to make sure that the visitor has the chance to find out about the stories and influences behind their art.

Works of art on display at The View Gallery will be available to purchase but Jennifer is keen to encourage casual viewers too.

The new gallery has a really stunning location: it’s worth visiting just to enjoy the view. The backdrop provides a fantastic canvas for a range of artworks and stories which we want to share with everyone. You’re welcome to buy, but you’re also welcome to take it all in.

As well as holding exhibitions, The View Gallery will also serve as a location for evening events and talks. Jennifer is planning a series of masterclasses, hosted by professionals in the wider Antiques Industry valuers from RWB Auctions, where attendees can learn how spot fake antiques or how to research their collectables.

For more information, or to be added to the gallery mailing list, please email jennifer@theviewgallery.co.uk or follow The View Gallery on Facebook or Instagram.
