Item Description
A graduated nest of three Danish teak tables by Jens Quistgaard for Richard Nissen, the largest H44cm x L51cm x D37cm.
We are delighted to offer this nest of tables in our upcoming Antiques & Interiors sale on Wednesday, 6th May, where it is expected to attract strong interest from collectors and design enthusiasts alike. Combining timeless form with practical function, pieces such as these exemplify the enduring appeal of Scandinavian craftsmanship and continue to be sought after in both traditional and contemporary interiors worldwide.
The Designer & The Maker
The Danish designer and sculptor, Jens Quistgaard (1919–2008), chief designer for Dansk Designs, was a defining figure of Scandinavian Modern design, renowned for combining sculptural form with everyday functionality. A Lunning Prize (1954) and Neiman Marcus Award (1958) winner, his work is held in major museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and The Louvre.
This example was produced in collaboration with Richard Nissen (1928–2013), whose Langå workshop specialised in high-quality timber pieces, often in teak or rosewood, distinguished by superb craftsmanship and precise joinery. Unlike mass-produced Dansk wares, Nissen editions were typically made in more limited quantities, adding to their desirability.
Combining rarity, craftsmanship, and iconic design, works by Quistgaard for Nissen are particularly sought after. Their timeless simplicity and practical elegance continue to resonate with modern interiors, ensuring strong and sustained interest among collectors.
